Block Spam Comments - Spam Comments are a fact of life for bloggers, And no one can 100% stops Spam Comments, You can only minimize that to a lower level by using some below steps. When I started my blog,I get probably 50-70 spam comments on my blog daily basis and I was very frustrated from deleting those Spam Comments.

What is spam : – Spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services etc.. Spammers is not only spam in your comments they also theft your website content and spread it all over the web that is another reason why Block Spam Comments and protect blog content is necessary. There are two kinds of method used by spammers:-

Automated ‘spam-bots : – Spammers use such as program and tools (robots) that can automatically submit large numbers of spam comment to numbers of blog in no time.

Manual Spam : -Well in this case spammers visit your site and manually post their spam comments in the comments field.

Block Spam Comments

Well there are many ways to Block Spam Comments and I make a list of these below.

1. Deny Access By IPs : – Well this the very easiest ways to Block Spam Comments on any blog,simply add below code inside your .htaccess file and you are done. Do change IP address with your spammers IP address.

Order allow,deny
Deny from 123.123.123.123
Deny from 156.156.156.*
Deny from 189.189.*.*
Allow from all

But remember one thing that most of the users use dynamic IP address allocation provide by  ISP if you block any spammer by its IP,Spammer may get a different IP from its ISP and its again start spamming on your blog.

2.Deny Access to No Referrer Requests:-When a spam-bot comes on any blog,it hits WordPress WP-comments-post.php file directly and almost every time does not leave a referrer.You can enable check Referrer Requests by using below Code inside your.htaccess file.

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} .wp-comments-post.php*
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !.*yourblog.com.* [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^$
RewriteRule (.*) ^http://%{REMOTE_ADDR}/$ [R=301,L]

Or you can redirect  spammers to any other website by using below.htaccess Code.

Do change Yourblog.com to your blog address.

3. Use PHP Code : – Just copy below PHP code and paste inside the theme functions.php it will check the referrer when a user posts a comment to ensure they are not a spam BOT.

4. Use WordPress Plugins : – If don’t want to edit yours .htaccess and theme functions.php files, then the best option for you uses a WordPress Plugin. There are many Plugins available for you to choose from, some of these plugins are:-

• Captcha
• SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam
• Super CAPTCHA
• Math Comment Spam Protection
