2 Things You Need To Do Before Jumping InTo Google Adsense
If you’re using your blog as an updated version of your Live Journal account, then your blog probably isn’t commercially viable unless you are a celebrity. If you are popular within your community, kudos! The reality, however, is that you are more likely to earn money from publishing a memoir or a self-help book than earning a living from Google Adsense through a personal blog.
Things You Need To Do Before Jumping In To Google Adsense
Determine what makes your blog commercially viable and focus on a niche topic.
Making money with Google Adsense is about increasing traffic and generating clicks. By blogging about a niche topic, Adsense will be better able to match your blog with ads that suit your site and will interest your readers. Your first instinct may be to rush out and write a blog that covers a topic that would relate to a high-paying advertising topic. This is a great instinct – if you are a master blogger with plenty of resources and a talent for optimizing Adsense.
Beginner bloggers usually don’t have the resources to compete in the overloaded markets that are capitalizing on these high-paying ads. Some professional sites have entire teams of SEO professionals and writers who are working to build backlinks and draw readers to sites that are developed on an Adsense business model.
Your best bet is to settle on a topic that you feel comfortable writing about. Once you have decided on a topic, your work will really begin. It could take as many as 100 posts before your audience begins to develop, and even then you will need to market your blog tirelessly to reach people.
Build a strong foundation before you begin advertising.
Did you start your blog to share information? Or did you begin in hopes of making money? It’s a chicken-and-the-egg type of question, but the outcome is the same – you want to use Google Adsense to make money. Striking a balance between information sharing and advertising is key to reaching this goal.
Regardless of the answer, there are three things your blog (existing or new) needs to have in order to appeal to readers and advertisers.
Clean Design – While designing your blog, keep advertising areas in mind. Eliminate all flashy graphics and make your layout as simple as possible. Remember, your goal is not self-expression or even branding. Your goal is to encourage people to click on advertisements.
Solid Information Architecture — This is important for your readers. You want them to be able to browse your archives and find more information. However, the really important part of building your information architecture is organizing your information in different ways that point back to your niche topic and continue to highlight keywords. For example, if you are writing an education blog, you can have different information channels such as “Education Technology”, “Lesson Plans and Resources” “Preparing Students for College”.
Quality Content — The world of publishing is a constant battle between content and advertising. You need quality content that supports keywords, but you also need quality ways of displaying ads. Some sites are displaying images above Adsense links to raise clicks. Though this is trending as a surefire way to increase Google Adsense revenue, do NOT use copyrighted images.
